Last week, we published an in-depth article about Segregated Witness (Segwit), SegWit2x, BIP148, and Wirex’s Contingency Plan. We realise this was a very in-depth explanation and want to make clear how this affects you.
To recap, due to a major upgrade to the global blockchain network, there will be a 48 hour period where it is strongly advised you do not make any Bitcoin transactions. There is a risk that bitcoin sent or received during this time could become untraceable when the upgrade is complete.
The security of your Bitcoin is of paramount importance, so we will pause bitcoin transactions on the Wirex platform during the global blockchain update.
Please note that your Wirex payment cards will continue to work with any pre-loaded funds.
BTC exchange will be paused at 12:20 UTC today, Monday, July 31st 2017 and resume at 12:20 UTC Wednesday, August 2nd 2017.
We will notify you by email and push message when full service resumes.
For full details and a deeper technical summary of the changes, please see our post from July 20th 2017.
If you have any questions, or need some further information, you can get in touch with our dedicated support team and quote ‘Segwit’ as the subject of your enquiry.
Our sincere thanks for your support and understanding during these exciting times.
