Fake email address: what it is, and how to make one that works
A fake email address is an ordinary, fully working mailbox that simply is not connected to you. Mail sent to it is delivered by the same machinery as mail to any other address. There is nothing simulated about it. What is fake is only the link between the address and a person: no name, no phone number, no billing detail, no history anyone can follow back.
The address at the top of this site already exists and already receives. This page is about the address itself: what the parts mean, what the name may contain, how to choose one you will still recognise tomorrow, and the two situations where a fake email address stops being the right tool.
The two halves, and which one matters

This is the single most useful thing to understand, because almost everyone gets it backwards. People spend time inventing a clever name and then wonder why a site refuses the address, but no filter has ever looked at the part before the @. Acceptance is decided entirely by the domain. The name is for you; the domain is for them.
What the name can contain
Type anything you like in front of the @. The field will quietly tidy it into something a mail server will accept. Knowing what that tidying does saves the surprise of typing one address and getting another.

Choosing the name: the one real trade-off
There is exactly one decision here, and it runs between two things you cannot have at once.
- A name you will recognise — because a mailbox here has no password and no account list. Coming back to it tomorrow means typing the same address again, from memory.

The workable middle is a name that is personal but not obvious: two unrelated words plus a number that means something to you and nothing to anyone else. Long enough that no one guesses it by accident, structured enough that you can reconstruct it a week later.
What the address will and will not do

The privacy line is worth stating plainly rather than burying: an address here is fine for a sign-up code and wrong for anything you would not want a stranger to read. That is not a flaw to be fixed; it is the trade that makes the address free, instant and account-less.
When a form refuses it
Sooner or later a sign-up form will say the address is not allowed. Nothing is broken when that happens: the site keeps a list of mail domains it does not accept, and the domain you were given is on it. Since the refusal is about the part after the @, rewriting the name changes nothing. The fix is a different domain.

When you need many addresses instead of one
Testing your own sign-up form, filling a staging database, checking that a mailing list handles duplicates: none of those want a working mailbox; they want a lot of addresses that are guaranteed never to reach a person. A generator for exactly that uses domains reserved by standard, so nothing sent to them can be delivered anywhere by accident.

Making one that lasts
Everything above describes an address on a shared domain: instant, free, and limited by the fact that thousands of other people were handed the same domain. The alternative is to put your own name after the @.
If you already own a website name, sending its mail here is a single setting — the exact values are here. After that the mailbox lasts as long as the domain does, and since nobody else uses that domain, no block-list describes it.
